Efficient Packing: Space-Saving Tips

When you are planning to pack in order to prepare to move, there are many things to consider in order to make moving easy and convenient. One of them is space-saving packing. After all, the fewer boxes there are, the easier and faster it is for you and the movers to get the job done.

1. Your clothes: roll them up. It applies to your everyday clothes including socks, sleepwear, underwear, leggings, t-shirts and jeans. In case of bras, stack them up like sunglasses, fold them and put them in a lingerie bag together. This way they won’t suffer breakage or end up making holes in other clothes with their hooks. Rolled up socks are especially handy when you have a box full of glassware, because you can put the socks in a zip-lock back and line the box, cushioning the glassware.

2. Utilize your vacuum cleaner: your bed sheets, covers and curtains are large; they take up space no matter how seamlessly you roll them up. In this case, you can take out a big plastic bag, put the bed sheets and such (do not roll them up- fold them in squares) in, and suck the air out by using a vacuum cleaner. You will see the bag deflating and going as flat as pizza dough.

3. Kitchenware: stack up the dishes and pots, largest one at the bottom and smallest one at the top. Kitchen gloves and towels can be used as the cushioning agents. Between the dishes, it’s good to put a sheet of paper towel; if they are sealed inside a zip loc bag, even better because you don’t have to worry about cleaning them after moving.

4. Throw away junk: last but not least, before you move, sort out the things you won’t need and haven’t been using for a long time. Be radical and throw the stuff away. You won’t miss them and there will be lighter workload for both you and your movers. If you have some time before the moving date, consider throwing a garage sale as well.
